This event is a run through the Lake Forest Open Lands' Skokie River Nature Preserve in Lake Forest, IL. The run will be a community event on a beautiful scenic trail. The event is a 'green race' meaning that there will be no harm to the area and everything about the race will be managed ecologically. The purpose of the run is to introduce runners and walkers** to the Lake Forest Open Lands and the pleasure of running in such bucolic, natural surroundings.

 ** Note the course will be shut down after 1 Hour, 40 Minutes.

Online registration is closed, please register at the event or at Kiddle's Sporting Goods, 258 Market Square Lake Forest on Saturday, Sep 22 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a trail race and the course has uneven surfaces. The course starts on an asphalt path, with a road crossing and then moves onto the prairie trail. The trail runs under dense tree canopies which may prevent proper operation of GPS watches affecting pace time and measured distance.

DIRECTIONS TO START

The race begins behind Deerpath Middle School, 95 W. Deerpath, Lake Forest. The start line takes place on the south ball field, with an open field cross-country style start. The finish line is within the prairie and an approximate 0.25 mile walk back to the school and post-race activities.

PARKING

Parking is available behind Deerpath Middle School.

We encourage participants to bicycle to the race or carpool. Bicycle racks are available at the start area.  

AWARDS INFO

There will be awards to top overall male and female finishers, as well as top masters male and female. Age groups for men and women are as follows: 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.  Our race is electronically timed and all awards are determined by gun time.   

ADDITIONAL INFO

Medical staff will be on site.  LF Police stationed next door.

GREEN RACE CERTIFICATION

The Swinging Bridge 8K Trail Race is one of the first ‘green’ races in Illinois, no paper flyers, no plastic bag, you receive your stuff online so nothing to throw in the trash. We use compostable water cups on the course and left over food is also composted. The unique race award medals contain seeds and can be planted in your garden. The event adheres to green race practices certified by Chicago Area Runners Association - CARA. 
The Swinging Bridge Trail Race is a CARA Certified Race. The race has met all CARA Race Certification Requirements and will follow all CARA Best Practices Guidelines.

DONATE TO CCL

We hope you will join us in supporting the Center for Conservative Leadership (CCL) at this year's Swinging Bridge Trail Race. The CCL is a Lake Forest Open Lands Association youth program for middle and high school students. The students selected for the program are from diverse backgrounds with keen interest in the environment and a passion of the outdoors. CCL's goal is to teach students how to become stewards of the environment.

Electronic Timing will be provided.

PACKET PICKUP

Online registration will end at midnight, September 21, 2018. 

Race packets will include only your bib number and tee shirt. There is no plastic bag or paper promotional material as we are adhering to CARA Green Race practices. A 'virtual goody bag' will be emailed to participants.

Race Packets and registration will be available on Saturday, October 14 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at:

Race day packet pick up is available with race day registration from 7:00-7:45 AM.  There are no refunds.
