Running Guru offers a Direct Email service where race directors can create emails and send to Running Guru members or their own list. Permission must be obtained for anyone that is sent a direct email.
Permission is express, verifiable consent to receive direct emails and marketing communication.
Express means that when you asked for permission, your question wasn't tied in with another agreement. For example, a separate checkbox for "I would like to receive marketing email from Your Company" is express and clear.
Because permission should also be verifiable, we recommend getting written or other permission from each recipient. With Running Guru's signup forms, we track and record the date and time of submission, so we have verified permission.
To ensure you have permission, always get approval before you send someone direct emails. Never assume you have permission, and when in doubt, get confirmation.
People who haven't given you permission are more likely to report your direct email as spam, and less likely to respond to your emails and register for your events. You should always get express permission.
Spam reports can lead to unwanted filtering and even blacklisting, which makes it virtually impossible for some recipients to receive any of your direct emails. This can also damage Running Guru's reputation as a whole and negatively affect delivery for all our users.
Remember that any list of contacts obtained from a third-party source, no matter how reputable, violates our Terms and puts you at risk. Plus, the numbers show that a purchased audience is a useless audience, so permission is also important to your return on investment.
