The single biggest obstacle in advancing research for the early detection of lung cancer is financial support. Private gifts make it possible to accelerate the rate at which researchers can pursue their work. Support of this nature allows scientists to test new theories that otherwise cannot be explored. This initial research often leads to them receiving larger grants that allow them to continue their efforts.

Course description:
Beginning at the front of the iconic Building 500, this 5k race will take you around the beautiful Anschutz Medical Campus ending in front of Building 500.
Strollers are allowed on the race course.
Dogs, bikes, in-line skates, roller-skates, skateboards and scooters ARE NOT allowed on the race course for safety reasons.
Parking:
I-225 to East Colfax Avenue
Go West on Colfax to Peoria Street
Go North on Peoria Street to East Montview Boulevard
Turn East on East Montview Boulevard to the Henderson parking Garage.

About the Cause
Support Early Detection of Lung Cancer
The Gift of Life & Breath is dedicated to raising awareness and funding to support the critical research needed for early detection of lung cancer. Race founders Gary and Thelissa Zollinger learned firsthand the difficulties faced with a deadly cancer that is rarely diagnosed in its early stages.
It is the goal and intent of this event to offer a positive outreach to the community and give lung cancer the immediate attention it needs. Public awareness and support are both key factors in attracting the funding that is needed for this important endeavor.
Lung Cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among both men and women in the United States.
2012 Lung Cancer Statistics
226,160 newly diagnosed
160,340 deaths from lung cancer (87,750 among men and 72,590 among women), accounting for about 29% of all cancer deaths.
Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. More people die of lung cancer than of colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.
