Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) have partnered in bringing the very first LAFD fire academy magnet school program to Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles beginning the fall semester of 2016.
The four year high school career path program will offer a rigorous and disciplined curriculum developed for young men and women expressing an interest in a career with the fire department and related fields. An assigned firefighter and a school staff member will be assigned to teach, council and mentor the students thru their fire academy experience. Although this program has been funded with books and school supplies, event proceeds will help provide with amenities such as uniforms, hats, book bags and equipment.
Some of the features of the event will include:
- A commemorative event t-shirt.*
- Commemorative Finisher medal for all registrants.
- Other entertainment, including access to wellness booths provided by local health care providers.
Course: Newly developed 5K Run/Walk route that includes rolling hills, all on trail, and in a newly developed historic park.
