Train Run Half Marathon inconjunction with the 626 Golden Open Streets Festival is the first ever Train Run 1/2 Marathon, point-to-point half marathon and 5K run for all levels of ability.

Access to healthy sampling booths at the start, throughout the course, and both Train Run finishes. Take your time (for walkers and joggers) and detour to enjoy bands and DJ performers along the route at the eight health hubs. *Please note that you may need to pause at soft closures during the route to allow traffic to cross through. PD will try to allow front runners and packs priority if permitted by traffic. See below for at Additional Information.

Course description:

Course will follow the 626 Golden Streets Open Streets route. Start will be at South Pasadena, and finishes just before City of Hope in Duarte. View Half Marthon Online Route

Fast, flat, fun on beautiful tree lined streets taking you through South Pasadena, San Marino, Arcadia, Monrovia, and Duarte. For beginners, take your time and visit our Healthy Hubs throughout the course, sampling booths, and hydration stations. For you hardcore competitors, you all have plenty of time open up your engine. 

For those doing the 5K race, please enjoy the San Marino hub following. The 5K will be a point to point as well finishing at Huntington and West. Runners will need to run/walk back to South Pasadena.

Race Starts at Mission Ave. and Diamond St, in South Pasadena. Opening ceremony staging will take place at the main stage adjacent to the South Pasadena Gold Line station (Mission and Meridian Ave). 

Runners will head east on Mission Street towards Garfield, south towards Huntington Drive, east on Huntington Drive, north on Michelinda, east on Colorado, right on 1st Street, left/east on Santa Clara Street, Right/South on California, left on Duarte/East and Finishes just before City of Hope (Duarte and Buena Vista).  Water stations at mile 3, 6, 8, 11, official finish line (13.1). Map will be available on the event website and maps will be available on the day of the event.

Elite international field tries to chase down the metro train just before it passes through before the finish. For more information on the elite field, please contact Jose Zavala, (626) 755-8489.

Please remember this is a part of the 626 Golden Streets open streets, and there may be other walkers and bicyclist along the route. Train Run Half Marathon and 5k is a competitive run, however, is set-up to accommodate participants of all levels. You will be sharing the road with cyclist and other wheelers who we anticipate will join the various entry points along the route. We have also informed the general public through the 626 golden streets website in efforts to ensure all participants enjoy the event. We will inform runners/walkers to stay on the right hand side of the street until the finish either the 5k or half marathon.

**Weather Alert**
This event will be held rain or shine. #‎TheTrainRun. Forcasts are for scatted showers. Make sure you utilize the water stations at each Golden Streets Hub location throughout the route or every 2 miles. We also have EMT support at each booth. Don't forget, you have the option to use the Metro starting at mile 9 (Arcadia station). Parents, please supervise and ensure your child or youth come prepared and use water stations. You are responsible for your children or youth. Stay informed by checking weather updates.

Please note: The 5K is point to point, where unforuntely there isn't access to take the train back. We will have a intermittent shuttle as available to return back on a first come first serve bases. Please plan alternative methods accordingly for the return trip. Or just make it a 10K round trip by run/walking back as part of the 626 Golden Streets Event :)


Surrounding street parking. Please be mindful of residents. Mission St. will be closed from cars. Park on parallel streets i.e. El Centro, or Hope St., or free Metro South Pasadena Gold Line parking structure will also be available. Please arive early to ensure enought time to park. After finishing in City of Hope, you may use your complimentary tap card to use the metro and ride back to the start (South Pasadena Gold Line Station). Please preload a tap card in advanced with $1.75 if you are not able to receive one. Finish is about 500 yards from the Duarte/City of Hope Station.

Intermittent Traffic Control Alerts

Note the following streets are mandatory police controlled and you may be required to wait for several seconds, especially the slower participants who will decide to take a temporary break at the various health hubs along the course. See route map for soft closures marked in RED (

Some of the main intersections include:

San Pasqual and Huntington Drive

San Gabriel and Huntington Drive

Rosemead and Huntington Drive

What is a soft closure? A soft closure is an intersection to allow car traffic to briefly cross the route. Soft Closures streets will have Police Department and/or CCC volunteers manning intersections. Please follow ALL directions during crossings. All other streets otherwise not noted in red will be hard closures.

 Metro Train Crossing:

California and Duarte, Monrovia California –  Every 12-15 minutes metro will cross and take about 10-15 seconds before safety arm is raised. You MUST follow safety officials instructions by pausing and passing only when permitted.

Sponsors booth & team set-up:  Same-day set-up starts at 5:30A and ends firmly at 6:30A.M. Vendors and Sponsors, enter from El Centro from Fremont Avenue. 

Media: Event is covered exclusively by Arroyo Vista Media Production and it’s affiliated partner BikeSGV. It includes photographs, video, web casting and other images of participants in the event. Entry into the meet is acknowledgement and consent to this fact.

Chip Timed Race:

The official ½ marathon is chip timed. Start is located near Mission & Fairview Ave. and participants must cross the timing mat for official results and to be eligible for the division awards (TBD).  Participant will then walk 100 yards towards the official start on Fairview and Mission Street. 

If you wish to be timed, your chip will be issued to you event morning at the registration tents or at packet pickup. You must wear the chip during the event to be scored.

Instructions on how to put your chip on your shoe:

The Jump Out Fun run from any metro station east of South Pasadena is not chipped timed, but registered participants must wear their bib to receive their finisher medal at the finish.

Complimentary Tap Card provided will include enough for Metro fair back to the start or designated metro stop along the route (while supplies last). Please make sure you come prepared to pay a $1.75 fair or a daily pass for the metro train if you are unable to get one of the tap cards.

Those youth who need to stop and rest, will have at least 4 opportunities before arriving at City of Hope. Parents and/or legal guardians are encouraged to coordinate with their child(ren) and/or their designated coaches their rest stops. Remember, this is also a fun run and youth and adults have the option to stop at each hub and rest before heading towards the finish. 

Half Marathon pricing*: 

$85 Early Bird until 2/26; $90 from 2/27 to 3/4; $100 Day-of Registration (3/5/2017)
*Registrations costs are non-refundable. While every effort will be made to conduct the event, the race will be postponed or canceled if the weather/conditions is judged to be hazardous to the safety of participants and spectators. Entry fees will not be refunded if the event is canceled.
Aztlan Kids Promotion (Race Morning):
It will NOT BE ALLOWED on race morning for kids (17 and under) to register under the free AztlanKids promotion on race morning. All must be registered online prior to the event.

Sorry youth, we have now closed registration for youth, but will be allowing registration for a subsidized cost at PPU or on race morning.

(Coaches and free youth please pickup packets on this day (Friday or following pre packet pickup times), but NOT race day. We are highly recommending to pickup their packets prior to the race morning to avoid lines. Those picking up on race morning, will need a leader to if picking up multiple kid's packets. (race swag available on a limited basis)

Finisher Medal: After the completion of the ½ Marathon of Fun Jump Out Run towards the finish, at either City of Hope, Duarte California or at the Cool Down Finish Celebration at Azusa metro station.  

Each person that crosses the finish line will receive a commemorative Finisher Medal.
