Description:

On, May 2, 2015, The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation (CHF) will hold its annual gala at The Island Event Center located  in Denver, Colorado. Again this year, our theme is Comedy for Canines. The evening will include dinner, cash bar, silent and live auctions, great friends and some of the funniest comedy available.

CHF grants comfort and hope to those affected by epilepsy through providing monitoring resources, vital information, and a safe haven for conversation and community.

CHF directly serves individuals living with epilepsy – there are over 3 million currently in the United States and over 26 million worldwide[i] – and their families. The safety and comfort of these individuals, as well as the awareness raised by the organization, also directly affects the community; peers, teachers, other families and the general public benefit from whole and healthy presence and contribution of the individual in community activities as well as from the knowledge that the individual is taking every step possible to safeguard their wellbeing.

Since its founding in November of 2009, CHF has reached thousands of individuals with vital information concerning SUDEP, and has given grants for seizure response dogs and/or placed equipment with families in 33 states. They have also provided grants and equipment to families in Canada and Australia.

Currently, CHF has provided over 68 epilepsy patients with grants of up to $2500 toward seizure-response dogs, as well as placing over 275 pieces of monitoring equipment in homes. Some families believe that these measures have saved the lives of their loved ones.

CHF ensures that ALL in need will be served by helping people on a first-come first-served basis rather than case-by-case, assuring that anyone who feels they need help – and may not qualify elsewhere – receives the help they need. While other foundations require individuals to experience a certain number of seizures per month to qualify, CHF recognizes that SUDEP can happen during any seizure, even those experienced relatively infrequently, and seeks to provide those individuals and families with the same level of care and support they provide to all families.
